The reasons for the best defensive prospects in the country are trending toward Georgia.

Kirby Smart and Georgia have established themselves as the best football program in the country by consistently fielding top-tier defenses.

With Georgia poised to produce another stellar class in 2025, the Bulldogs are hoping to build on their No. 1 recruiting class in 2024. In order for that to occur, Smart and Co. will need to secure the Peach State, which has nine players in the top 50 of the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Two of the top five in-state prospects, defensive lineman Justin Terry and tight end Eliyiss Williams, have already committed to UGA, and the university is in the running for two more.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) projects five-star defensive tackle Elijah Griffin and five-star linebacker Zachary Walker will sign with the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs contesting FSU, Miami, and other teams for Walker

Since September, when On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons registered an expert prediction in favor of the Bulldogs, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Walker has been heading toward Georgia. During the season, he was on the verge of committing to UGA but decided to wait and take his time recruiting.

“Simmons commented at the time that several programs have competed with Georgia at different times for the top slot on Walker’s list.” However, Georgia has consistently been at the top or very close to it. Early on, South Carolina was seen to be a serious contender. Walker has made multiple appearances on the Florida State campus. Miami emerged over the summer. The three programs are still in place, as are the others, but they were all initially aimed at Georgia.

Walker has already returned to Georgia this month after naming Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, Penn State, and Miami as his preferred universities for the upcoming academic season.

He is anticipated to visit Florida State on January 20, Miami on January 27, and South Carolina on February 3.

5-Star Plus+ DL returning after a recent trip to Athens

Griffin, on the other hand, recently returned from a trip to Athens. Additionally, Georgia is gaining ground on Clemson, Alabama, and numerous other schools for the nation’s top defensive lineman.

On Monday afternoon, Simmons recorded a selection for the Bulldogs to defeat Griffin, which significantly increased their lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

In his explanation of the selection, Simmons stated, “Going into this weekend, I had seen Georgia as the favorite to land Griffin.” “The excitement around the Bulldogs is even higher after this past weekend. It was Griffin’s first time seeing his grandmother on campus. In Athens, his little sister adored it. Georgia remains in a strong position to get the top prospect in their state, and his mother feels quite at ease with the staff.

I’ve entered Georgia as my pick on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine after speaking with sources. Georgia’s main rival is thought to be South Carolina. Griffin will be in Florida this weekend, and on January 27 he will visit Clemson. Griffin may choose to commit earlier, even though he has always stated that he will make a decision later in the process. That is still a topic of discussion.

Georgia’s 4-star IOL, Mason Short, is trending for 2025.

Kirby Smart and his team are off to a fast start for 2025 after securing the finest recruiting class in the country for the 2024 cycle. The ‘Dawgs are currently trending in the recruitment of several elite talents, as seen by their ranking of No. 3 in the 2025 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Mason Short, a four-star interior offensive lineman from Evans, Georgia, is one such prospect. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that takes into account all four of the main recruiting media organizations, Short is ranked No. 10 among interior offensive linemen and No. 194 overall in the country for the 2025 recruiting cycle. Additionally, he is Georgia’s No. 27 prospect.

On Tuesday, Short announced his decommitment from Alabama, days after the iconic head coach Nick Saban left his position in Tuscaloosa. Without any delay, Kirby Smart arrived at Evans via helicopter to meet Short.

About the UGA employees, Short said to BamaOnLine in November, “They have informed me they liked my film this year.” “You must think we are stupid for thinking you are going to sign with Alabama,” they will always say to me. They believe there’s a strong chance they can turn me.

I get along well with Coach Smart and Coach Searles. I get calls from Coach Smart a lot. He sends me a lot of texts. Not only am I hearing from them, but I am also hearing it from other students and teachers in the school hallways. I hear something every day, at the very least, regarding UGA.

Georgia is in first place with an 80.9% probability of landing short, per the On3 Recruiting Predictor. With a 55% degree of certainty, Bulldogs recruiting insider Jeremy Johnson recorded an expert forecast that Short would choose the red and black.

Georgia comes in third in the 2025 cycle.

Six prospects have committed to Georgia as of right now in the 2025 cycle: Manchester, Georgia Camden County’s five-star defensive lineman, Justinus Terry, is from Folkston, Georgia. Ellyiss Williams, a four-star tight end; Joshon Perlotte, a four-star linebacker; Ethan Barbour, a four-star tight end; Tae Harris, a four-star cornerback; and Bo Walker, a three-star running back from Ellenwood, Georgia.
