Transfer update: Bayern set to replace defender with Chelsea star…

Bayern Munich want Chelsea star to replace defender leaving to Real Madrid

22-year-old Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen is being sought by German giants Bayern Munich. Maatsen is a target of Bayern Munich’s defense-bolstering ambitions ahead of next season, according to a report by HITC. The German giants believe the Chelsea full-back would be a perfect match for them as they hunt for a prospective Alphonso Davies successor.

The summer of 2025 marks the expiration of Davies’ Bayern contract. Despite their best efforts, the player does not appear to be interested in sticking with the team.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have chosen Davies as their defensive signing for the summer transfer window, and most of the time, Los Blancos get their desire in the transfer market.

With Davies, who is one of Bayern’s most important players, likely to leave the club, they are looking at left-back options in the transfer market.

Maatsen of Chelsea is one of their aspirations. Bayern are interested in the young defender, who is presently on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

In the summer of 2023, he was elevated to their main squad following a good loan stay at Burnley the previous season. In order to supply him with playing time, the Blues leased him out to Dortmund in January this year. Since then, Maatsen has made 12 appearances and has even assisted on three goals.

In his limited time in Germany, he has demonstrated a lot of potential, and Bayern believe he might fill the void that Davies’ departure could leave. With two years remaining on his contract, the Dutch youth international will rejoin his parent club in the summer. Maatsen’s Chelsea deal has a £35 million release clause, which might result in his leaving.

The Premier League club is suffering financial troubles right now; thus, his exit could help them reduce their financial struggles. As to the report by HITC, another possibility being studied by Bayern is Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.
