Update: The 49ers player whose name the Washington Commanders are interested in is shortlisted.

The “Short List” of Washington Commanders by Brandon Aiyuk

It’s possible that ESPN writer Adam Schefter abandoned the notion that Brandon Aiyuk will play for the Washington Commanders. Brandon Aiyuk, though, hasn’t.

A few days after Schefter effectively ended rumors of a connection between the Commanders and the irate 49ers wide receiver, he appeared on a podcast and named the three teams he thinks he could play for this season.

Despite all the excitement in the NFL over Aiyuk being “interested” in a trade from the Niners and the recent negotiations regarding a possible deal between the two teams, Schefter eventually reports that it isn’t happening.

Schefter stated on TV this week, “There were some conversations between the 49ers and Commanders at one point.” “The Commanders were interested, but they decided not to do that deal.” Aiyuk has his own short list, which includes the Pittsburgh Steelers, Commanders, and Niners, notwithstanding that disclosure.

Aiyuk stated on The Pivot with former player and ESPN host Ryan Clark, “Probably a Niners uniform.” “It’s presumably a Washington Commanders uniform, if not a Niners one. Maybe a Steelers uniform, if not a Washington Commanders one.”

As the 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl the previous season, Haiyuk had 75 receptions for a career-high 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns opposite Deebo Samuel. However, the team is unwilling to pay him as the team’s top receiver, and contract talks are at an impasse.

After the season, his current deal will expire, leaving him as a lame-duck player on one of the NFL’s top teams come 2024. Maybe Aiyuk’s next snap will be for the Commanders if he has played his final down for the 49ers.
