One of the best players in Lions history took to social media lately to discuss a health scare Friday. Barry Sanders released a statement explaining a heart-related episode he suffered on Father’s Day weekend, but noted that he is on the road to recovery.
“Over Father’s Day weekend I experienced a health scare related to my heart,” he said. “It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling fine.”
Sanders, 55, recently made public appearances at the Michigan Central Station grand opening event and prior to that, the NFL Draft in Detroit. His statement goes on to praise healthcare experts and hints at a desire to prioritize his health.
“Over Father’s Day weekend, I encountered a health crisis linked to my heart. It was unexpected and served as a reminder of the necessity of remaining watchful about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling well.
“I am appreciative for the great physicians, nurses and other healthcare personnel for giving me with essential care. My family and I are thankful for your prayers and support during this time.
“Per my doctors’ advise, I am utilizing this opportunity to emphasize my health and well-being. I appreciate your understanding and continuous support.”
