Ghost Pirates sign affiliation deal with Panthers, Checkers

On Monday, the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) team announced they had signed a multi-year arrangement to become the new affiliate of the Florida Panthers and their American Hockey League (AHL) franchise, the Charlotte Checkers.

The Savannah Ghost Pirates have been associated with the Golden Knights and their AHL team, the Henderson Silver Knights, for the previous two seasons.

The move now leaves the Knights without an ECHL team since first announcing the dealin May 2022. Vegas had also been linked with the Fort Wayne Komets for the 2018-19 season.

In May, the team also announced that they will hand head coaching duties for their first season to Alex Loh, a former assistant coach with the Ghost Pirates from 2022-2024 who later stepped in as the team’s interim head coach. The club is expected to play games at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Nevada.

Their season opening against the Jacksonville Icemen is slated for Thursday, October 24, where they will play 72-game regular season games against teams inside the Mountain Division as well as three out-of-division road trips.
