Breaking news: The commanders paid one of their star players a signing bonus to avoid legal battles.

The Commanders Paid Brandon McManus Signing Bonus Report.

After releasing controversial kicker Brandon McManus last week, the Washington Commanders seemingly want to separate itself from this controversy as soon as possible.

At the time of McManus’ departure, the Commanders had only paid half of his $1.5 million signing bonus with the other half due on Friday.

Instead of withholding that money and probable risking a legal battle, the Commanders just elected to pay McManus the balance of his signing bonus and move on, per Pro Football Talk.

On May 27, news came that two women filed a lawsuit against McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars, his previous team, accusing him of sexual assault. The alleged assault took occurred on the Jaguars’ team trip to London last season. The two women are demanding nearly $1 million in damages.

Shortly after McManus’ departure last week, Commanders coach Dan Quinn said the team did not aware of the complaint until it became public.

Considering all the turmoil that surrounds the Commanders during the Dan Snyder era, and the great momentum Josh Harris and co. have generated during the offseason, it makes full sense for them to want to stay as far away from this situation as possible.

McManus inked a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the Commanders in March. It’s extremely conceivable that no team will sign him until this scenario is handled.
