More evidence that the Eagles want to cut James Bradberry is in a new report.
The benchmark date of June 1, which permits teams to sit players in order to save money both now and in the future, is quickly approaching. In order to save money on wage caps, a number of NFL teams will let go of some of its highest-paid players after June 1.
Report: A top player may be dropped by the Philadelphia Eagles… and his $15.1 million cap charge have become an albatross when he showed a marked deterioration in effectiveness in 2023.
When you consider that the Eagles selected cornerbacks with their first two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, it’s clear that Bradberry’s time in Philadelphia is running out.
Actually, this is further supported by Eagles reporter Bob Brookover’s most recent reporting. Bradberry won’t be present for the Eagles’ OTAs on Tuesday, despite their scheduled start time. This implies that Philly does not have intentions to use the All-Pro defense in the upcoming campaign.
The Eagles will save more than $10 million if they cut Bradberry after June 1st since their dead cap hit for 2024 will drop to $4.3 million. This would enable them to fill in further roster gaps before training camp.
Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell, two rookie cornerbacks, will probably start opposite each other for Philadelphia. Isaiah Rodgers Sr., who was just reinstated, Avonte Maddox, and Cooper DeJean, a second-round pick, will all give depth at the position.
Last season, the NFL’s worst pass defense belonged to the Eagles. Bradberry was the primary offender; he was often outplayed by receivers and finished near the bottom of all defensive metrics.
Vic Fangio, the new defensive coordinator, will need to make improvements on that end for Philadelphia to have a chance to win the Super Bowl the following year.
