The Chicago Bulls are about to embark on their sixth season under Billy Donovan’s leadership. The team missed the postseason in each of the preceding two seasons, despite making it to the NBA playoffs in 2022.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said on Saturday that Donovan has significantly increased the team’s coaching staff.

Wojnarowski reports: “ESPN sources: Wes Unseld Jr. has consented to become Billy Donovan’s primary assistant coach when he joins the Chicago Bulls.” After working for Michael Malone’s Denver team for six years, Unseld Jr. has been the head coach of the Wizards for the last two plus seasons.”

Unseld Jr. led the Wizards to a 77-130 record while in head coaching position. Despite his lack of success with the Wizards, he is a valuable addition to the coaching staff of the Bulls.

The roster of the Bulls, which includes DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, Nikola Vucevic, and Coby White, is incredibly good. Nevertheless, they still have trouble with injuries.

Ball has not participated in a game since the 2021–22 campaign, and LaVine missed 57 games in the previous campaign. With a 39-43 record, the Bulls were the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference come playoff time.

The Bulls lost to the Miami Heat in their second play-in tournament game after defeating Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks in the first.

DeRozan’s future will be a major topic of discussion over the next six weeks because he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The 11th pick in the NBA Draft of 2024 will go to the Bulls as well.
