Guardiola now holds the Premier League title for Manchester City.
Following a commanding 4-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday that catapulted them to the top of the Premier League standings, Pep Guardiola declared that Manchester City now had the destiny of winning the league.
At Craven Cottage, a dominant victory was achieved thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol, Phil Foden, and Julian Alvarez in the late minutes.
With a game against Manchester United on Sunday, Arsenal, in second position, is presently two points behind Guardiola’s team.
In the unlikely event that Arsenal loses to Man United, Man City might win an unprecedented fourth English title if they defeat Tottenham on Tuesday.
Even if Arsenal wins, City can win their sixth championship in seven years if they beat West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on May 19 and Tottenham the following week. Guardiola said, underscoring the importance of their command over the championship race:
“We want to control our own destiny in the final game of the season against West Ham. Although it will be challenging, we are up for the task.
“We control our destiny since we (Arsenal) lost against Aston Villa.” He said he was ready for the task at hand and emphasized the need to concentrate just on the upcoming game.
When considering his team’s capacity to perform well under duress, Guardiola complimented his players on rising to the occasion and mentioned how much they enjoyed the challenge. He continued by mentioning their strategy of accepting each game as it arises and being focused on winning the subsequent one.
Guardiola praised his team’s tenacity and resolve as they continue to strive for league victory, as City has gone 21 games without a loss.
