The BCCI might not cause any shocks in the team selection as far as India’s T20 World Cup squad is concerned. There could be one or two kids in the team who have been in outstanding form, and a few could miss out as well but generally, there will be 15 tried and tested men on the side.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has basically zeroed in on the 20 players they think might be in and around the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, which may consist of the of the least shocks. As per a PTI report, proven and trusted players would be on the trip to the Caribbean and the United States for the flagship T20 competition, given they are in form, except for an alteration here or there keeping IPL performances in mind.

The report added that there is a toss-up between one of Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad of 15, apart from a few players in the hunt for the second wicketkeeper’s slot, with Rishabh Pant obtaining the first one. Sanju Samson is facing competition from the likes of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma. Jitesh, however, might be the last in the running and is highly likely to lose out on the selection despite being the first-choice keeper in T20s for the Indian side prior to the IPL.

“There would not be any experimenting or left-field selections. All those who have played for India and have done well consistently in T20 internationals and the IPL will be rewarded,” a BCCI official was cited as saying in the newspaper.

The wicketkeeper’s decision could also be decided based on those batters’ positions. Rahul and Ishan are starting for their respective IPL sides, while Sanju is batting in the middle order, as are Pant and Jitesh.

Another topic of dispute is likely to be the third spinner, with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav taking the first two positions. Will India be ready to take a leg-spinner with Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi competing for the same or may Axar get in because of his batting skills? Interesting few days ahead.
