Update: The Philadelphia Eagles are poised to improve their team by adding new player.

C.J. Uzomah, a former New York Jets tight end, signs with the NFC contender.

As the New York Jets contemplate the fate of their 10th overall pick, they’ll certainly at least consider choosing Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers.

He would provide unusual versatility and agility to a tight end room that is presently projected to send most of its snaps to Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert.

In 2023, tight end C.J. Uzomah also played into New York’s intentions at tight end. However, hardships, injuries, and the rise of Ruckert would put an expiration date on his services.

The Jets would remove Uzomah early in the offseason, creating $5 million in cap space and letting the team acquire flexibility ahead of its flurry of free-agent acquisitions.

On Thursday, Uzomah found his new home. The tight end signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Ian Rapoport.

“FA TE CJ Uzomah, the former Bengals and Jets starter, is set to sign a one-year deal with the Eagles, per me and Mike Garafolo,” he tweeted. “Uzomah, who went to Philly today and passed his physical, should enhance their passing assault and provide the offensive with another weapon.”

Uzomah’s Jets time ended with an MCL injury. Clearly, Philadelphia feels confident in his now-clean sheet of health. He’ll likely slide in behind star tight end Dallas Goedert and alongside Grant Calcaterra and Albert Okwuegbunam.

Of the depth alternatives, Uzomah certainly offers the greatest present value as a blocker and might see good playing time if the offensive coordinator dabbles in 12 personnel.

Uzomah saw just eight catches for 58 yards and a score in 2023 after falling out of favor during the offense’s troubles. The year prior, in his debut with the Jets, he caught 21 passes for 232 yards and two scores.

While Uzomah won’t be getting first-team reps, Goedert missed considerable time in each of his first three seasons and is yet to appear in every game of an Eagles season. It won’t be shocking to see him assist the Tush push in 2024.
