Update: One of the great Chicago Bears player was hospitalized for an unexplained sickness

The Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Steve McMichael is hospitalized again and undergoing testing

Chicago Bears great Steve McMichael was hospitalized Wednesday for unclear reasons, according to his publicist, Betsy Shepherd. McMichael is undergoing tests, and his family is asking for prayers.

McMichael, 66, has been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) since 2020 and has been hospitalized twice during the past year, most recently in February.

In that incident, McMichael spent more than a week in the intensive care unit with pneumonia and a urinary tract infection. He also acquired a staph infection.

Last summer, McMichael was hospitalized due to pneumonia and sepsis. His yearslong fight with ALS has deprived him of the capacity to talk or move.

McMichael was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February, and the former defensive tackle will be honored with the Hall’s Class of 2024 in August in Canton, Ohio.

Last week at the NFL owners meetings, Bears Chairman George McCaskey stated the organization will continue to help McMichael and his wife, Misty, any way it can and underlined how tough it has been to digest all the McMichaels have had to face.

“It’s difficult to put into words,” McCaskey remarked. “I’m just amazed and impressed by Misty and all she’s done for Steve. I’m sure she has been tested in numerous ways that I can’t even begin to understand.

“But I just talked to her the other day. She was enthusiastic and very much looking forward to Canton and seeing her husband acknowledged as one of the game’s immortals. I’m sure it’s going to be incredibly fulfilling for the whole family.”
