Transfer news: Chelsea move to capture Barcelona’s defender ahead Manchester United…

Chelsea and Manchester United are very interested in the €60 million-rated Barcelona defender.

With Barcelona needing to make some big transactions in the summer, they have chosen to offload at least two centre-backs to create income.

As it is, the Blaugrana have five center defenders in the squad: Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, and Pau Cubarsi. On top of that, Clement Lenglet and Eric Garcia will be returning after their loan spells. Beyond that, the Catalans are also considering re-signing Chadi Riad from Real Betis by invoking the buyback clause.

Lenglet and Garcia are sure to move again, ideally on permanent transfers, although Barcelona might not stop at that as additional income would be needed. As has been stated previously, one of Kounde or Christensen could end up being sacrificed.

Now, SPORT says that Jules Kounde has no shortage of suitors, with two heavyweights from the Premier League, Chelsea and Manchester United, particularly interested in his talents.

The 25-year-old has not produced consistently enough this season, although his displays have improved at right-back in recent weeks. Chelsea, who had tried to recruit Kounde before he joined Barcelona in 2022, are interested again and reportedly scouted him during a match last month.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are searching for defensive reinforcements in the summer despite the prospect that Raphael Varane could move on, with Kounde seemingly emerging as an alternative for his colleague.

The former Sevilla defender, whose current market value stands at €60 million, might be open to bids, as reported earlier, which could make things a lot simpler for Barcelona.

A lot of activity is expected at the club this summer, and whether Kounde’s exit is one of the operations that takes place will be intriguing to witness.
