Todd Boehly can complete four summer moves to provide Chelsea perfect FFP answer
latest Chelsea transfer news as Mauricio Pochettino will be trying to collect funds to boost his team in the summer transfer window
Chelsea could try to collect millions through player sales to help Mauricio Pochettino enhance his squad ahead of the 2024–25 season. The Blues were constrained by what they could do in the January transfer window due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR) after spending over £1 billion under Todd Boehly.
The American billionaire and Clearlake Capital have been controversially active in the market since completing their takeover at Stamford Bridge. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, three of Chelsea’s record signings occurred in the last two years: Enzo Fernandez (£106.8 million), Moises Caicedo (£115 million), and Wesley Fofana (£75 million).
Despite business being quiet in January, millions are expected to be spent in the summer to further enhance Pochettino’s squad. The Blues are suffering for results on the pitch once again this term, sitting 10th in the Premier League.
PSR permits clubs to only lose £105 million across a three-year rolling time frame, and Chelsea is one club the rest of the Premier League will be watching in the market. If the West Londoners want to spend big at the end of the season, player sales could be a good path to go down.
Monday’s hero at Palace and Gallagher’s future at Chelsea continue to be unknown. The midfielder’s contract expires in 2025, meaning the forthcoming window is the first of two final possibilities to obtain a fee.
Tottenham are interested in Gallagher, and if reports are to be believed, the north Londoners would pursue their interest if Chelsea couldn’t agree a new contract with the 24-year-old.
Pochettino is certainly a fan of the midfielder, with him an ever-stay in the Argentine’s midfield this season. However, his sale would register as ‘pure profit’ in Chelsea’s financial reports, and the choice may be out of the head coach’s control.
