When Mahomes leads his team against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas this weekend, he will become the first quarterback to start in four Super Bowls before turning thirty.

In addition to participating in four of the previous five Super Bowls, the two-time league MVP has advanced to the AFC Championship Game in the 2021 postseason.

Speaking on the most recent episode of Inside the Huddle, Phoebe Schecter and Neil Reynolds of Sky Sports NFL compared Mahomes’ Chiefs to Brady’s legendary Patriots dynasty squad.

Speaking on the most recent episode of Inside the Huddle, Phoebe Schecter and Neil Reynolds of Sky Sports NFL compared Mahomes’ Chiefs to Brady’s legendary Patriots dynasty squad.

In contrast to previous seasons, when the Chiefs’ offense led by Mahomes and Andy Reid carried them to victory, the 2023 campaign saw the team rely heavily on the exceptional defense of Steve Spagnuolo.

Despite facing setbacks and expensive errors all season long, Kansas City’s passing attack has rebounded nicely to defeat rivals like the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens to secure a spot in the Big Dance.

“They are a championship team when you think about that aspect of it,” Reynolds stated. “They averaged around two drops every game, which was the most in the NFL, and they have only had about one in the last two postseason games.

“They cleaned that up; Mahomes hasn’t intercepted any passes; the defense has taken the lead. They took a different approach, which was the Patriot approach.

It’s ironic because four years ago, the Chiefs were the underdogs heading into the Super Bowl in Miami; they had finally defeated the Patriots, who were now out, and the Chiefs were the team to beat. Kelce is now portraying the antagonist.”

Particularly for the Chiefs, tight end Travis Kelce has rebounded to nearly reach his peak, amassing 262 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the postseason.

During Super Bowl week’s Opening Night on Monday, the future Hall of Famer was greeted with jeers, but he insisted that it simply made him more determined.

“Everybody wants a storyline; everybody wants to have some sort of role,” said Schecter. “You need a good balance of portraying the antagonist and the underdog; some teams excel at doing that.

“Every squad needs that one guy who can get under your skin—the evil guy.

“That’s almost the difference with some of these great teams; they understand somebody almost needs to be that, and he just happens to be the No. 1 and most trusted target for Mahomes.”
