The Eagles will finally get to play in an NFL Friday game after…

The Eagles will participate in the first-ever NFL Friday game since 1970 in Week 1 of 2024, which will take place in Brazil.

The NFL is on its way to Brazil. A game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, will take place for the first time in league history. On September 6, 2024, a Friday night, the game will take place in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

The home team for the game will be the Philadelphia Eagles. The away team will be made public prior to the start of the season; they have not yet been named.

According to a press release, Goodell stated, “This historic first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint.” “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”

The Eagles’ chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Lurie, stated that the group is “honored” to be selected for the historic game.

As our league’s primary aim is the global expansion of our sport, we seize the chance to expand our fan base internationally and introduce Eagles football to Brazil’s 38 million sports lovers. Brazil is a global melting pot and one of the most culturally diverse countries on earth. We are looking forward to visiting later this year and experiencing its friendly, lively, and pleasant atmosphere,” Lurie added.

“The league’s decision to play the game in the first week of the NFL 2024 season is a true testament to their confidence in our work as host city,” São Paulo mayor Ricardo Nunes stated.

Nunes went on to state, “Having this historic spectacle on the eve of Independence Day and driving a great economic impact and job creation for São Paulo will spotlight our city as a globally relevant destination for the world’s most exciting sports and entertainment events.”

This is the first Week 1 match to be played on a Friday night in almost 50 years. The final Friday night game of opening week took place on September 18, 1970, when the Cardinals and Rams faced off.

The NFL has been traveling abroad more lately, and its expansion to Brazil will help the league grow its fan base even further. The upcoming season will have games in Munich for the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings, in addition to games in London for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota.
