£50 million A Chelsea player might potentially lose his spot due to rumors of a formation change.
After Chelsea’s 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday, the Evening Standard reported that Mauricio Pochettino might be ready to move the Blues to a back three.
If he does that, one or two people might be killed, and Raheem Sterling is one man who might be in danger.
Sterling’s performance in the league hasn’t been terrific lately. Actually, since November, the £50 million winger (BBC Sport) has not scored in the Premier League.
In light of that and Christopher Nkunku’s comeback, the 29-year-old might have to make way if Pochettino chooses to use a 3-4-3 system, for instance.
With Cole Palmer on the other wing and Nicolas Jackson up front, Nkunku could fill in for Sterling on the left.
If Pochettino decides to line up that way for the remainder of the season, then that is only one possibility.
There are usually winners and losers in these situations. Benoit Badiashile might turn out to be the winner in the end, but Sterling might be the loser.
After returning from injury, the Frenchman has not solidified his position in the squad and has occasionally been forced to play left back. However, having an extra center back in the defense could give him more chances to play in his natural position.
Nevertheless, a lot may depend on Pochettino’s plans for Levi Colwill, an England international who makes sense as a left center-back.
Chelsea supporters will be hoping that Pochettino does not also fancy him as a left winger, given that he has played left back for the majority of the season.
