Georgia’s Sophomore Class is Ready to Take Off in 2024
Although the Bulldogs are extremely deep on both ends of the court, a few true sophomores might make a big difference this autumn.
A spectacle has been put on by Georgia players at Senior Bowl practice in advance of the game this Saturday. Before what is sure to be another successful NFL draft for the program’s previous stars, it has been another opportunity for Georgia to display its brilliance. But every guy selected in the draft means there’s a void on the depth chart that needs to be covered.
Although the Bulldogs signed the top overall class in the country this past December, Kirby Smart’s program has been founded on great recruiting, and the players from the 2023 class have the best opportunity of filling those holes. Those athletes will become contributors after a year in the strength program, a complete season of practices, and some crucial game experience. As they move from freshmen to sophomores, here are some of the guys to keep an eye on.
Georgia will need Hall to step up this autumn because of his sturdy oak tree. Despite the return of several important players for their senior seasons, the defensive line looked weak this past season. Hall possesses the length to pressure the passer from the interior and can line up at tackle or end. As a freshman, he participated in ten games and recorded ten tackles.
A lot of Allen was seen by Georgia fans when Jamon Dumas-Johson had a forearm injury during the previous season. In Georgia’s top-10 battle with Ole Miss, the rookie received his first start and never gave it up. Allen is now playing the role, with Dumas-Johnson now in Kentucky. He will be playing in the same spot that Roquan Smith, Tae Crowder, and Nakobe Dean have all occupied. Some large shoes need to be filled.
Similar to Hall and Allen, Aguero saw some action as a freshman, but this past season he mostly served as a special team member. With Caleb Downs selecting Ohio State over the Dawgs and Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith heading to the NFL, Aguero has a great chance of playing meaningful snaps opposite Malaki Starks. Ranked among the top 50 prospects out of high school, he has demonstrated excellent lane running and coverage instincts.
