It took place once more. The Cowboys saw yet another season come to a tragic end as they were easily defeated at home by the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon in the opening round of the playoffs.

The game was never that close, even though the final score was 48–32.

Why this mattersThis team has seen many devastating, season-ending losses throughout the years, so it’s possible that this is the most devastating loss in franchise history.

This appeared to be Dallas’ best chance to win a Super Bowl in almost ten years, with a potent offense and a top-5 defense. However, no.

Deep breath: It has been 29 years since Dallas last won a Super Bowl.

Context: The Cowboys have lost a confusing playoff game after finishing with a 12-win regular season for the third consecutive year.

Dallas is the only team in NFL history to win that many games in three straight regular seasons without making it to the conference finals.

The big picture: The Cowboys, the heavy favorites going into the game, were the second-seeded club in the conference. They were playing the seventh-seeded Packers, a team led by a quarterback playing in his first postseason game.

What transpired was unsightly. Green Bay had an early and commanding 27-0 lead after the Cowboys made mistakes on both offense and defense.

Dak Prescott threw two interceptions in the first half, one of which was recovered for a touchdown, to finish off the finest season of his career.

Aaron Jones, the Green Bay running back, raced for 118 yards and three scores, and the previously renowned Dallas defense could not stop him.
The entire show served as fuel for criticism of the Cowboys among football fans.

Sadly, head coach Mike McCarthy’s record with the Cowboys in postseason action is currently 1-3.

The Cowboys have now lost three postseason games at AT&T Stadium compared to the three wins by the Packers.
